Happy Thanksgiving!

I had a wonderful time in Arizona during the Legacy's Drawing Show and Open House last month...Roping Braids sold, too.  My good friend, JaNeil Anderson, and I did some site seeing on our travels including Sedona, the Grand Canyon and the Babbit ranches where her grandson works.  In the picture below, JaNeil and I had just come from an early morning photo shoot at the Babbit Ranch and were thankful for our hats on that sunny day...such astonishing beauty at the Grand Canyon!  As you can imagine, I'm anxious to tackle some new works from all of the wonderful reference photos obtained on our trip.

Praising and thanking God for each and every one of you on this special Day of Thanks.  Travel safely and eat lots of turkey!

Reminder:

Be on the look out for my next newsletter with info on a Christmas Show at my gallery.  For a sneak peak of my work be sure to pick up the Dec. issue of Western Art Collector and Southwest Art magazines if you run across them.

2011 Fall Show Schedule

There are several shows coming up that I will be participating in this fall.  The first being the AQHA:  America's Horse in Art in Amarillo, Texas.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the art will go to the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame to support its efforts to preserve the history of the American Quarter Horse.

Each piece of art – ranging from pencil drawings to sculptures – will be available for purchase on opening night. All remaining pieces will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, beginning at 8 a.m. Monday August 15th.  I have two drawings in the show, Ojo Bueno shown to the left and Thirst.  All artwork will remain on exhibit through November 13th, so stop by and see some wonderful art if you are in the area.

For those of you traveling through New Mexico in early Sept. make the Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum one of your stops.  Pictured below is my drawing Who's Coming on exhibition for the American Plains Artists annual show and sale.  I am also pleased to announce that four of my drawings were juried into the Bosque Art Classic that will take place in early Sept, as well.  Be on the look out for my next newsletter where I will be posting these new works.

A May Day

Whew!  This spring has been a whirl wind with my graduating senior and all of the kids' spring sports and 4-H activities....I can't believe it is already the end of May.  Now it's time to catch you up to speed on art.  Back in March, Bob and I traveled to Montana for The Russell show in Great Falls.  We met so many wonderful people and artists during our four day stay.  I couldn't have been happier when my piece "Early Start" sold during the Wall Sale opening night.  It went to a great home in Wyoming!

The 1st annual Scottsdale Salon of Fine Art hosted by The Legacy Gallery opened in April and my piece titled "Concho" sold during the opening reception.  This piece prompted some interest and Scott Jones, their awesome manager, sold another drawing for me titled "Punkin's Palomino".  Needless to say, I'm very excited about my new found relationship with everyone at The Legacy and will be sending them new works in hopes of building my clientele.  Their locations are in both Scottsdale, AZ and Jackson Hole, WY...so stop by to see some terrific art if you are in the area.

Many of you are already aware of the terrible drought in Texas and the fires that have ravaged the lands this past month.  Well, Bob and I have been heavily impacted by the fires in Crockett and Val Verde Counties where we also ranch. The Lord answered our prayers when the temperature and winds changed right before it reached our neighbor and ranch hand's houses. A BIG Thanks to our neighbors, volunteers, and forest services who were able to help battle the fire near our ranch hand's house while my husband, my brother and son were fighting at the neighbor's house. Like many ranchers, we will be forced to sell much of our livestock as there is not enough grass to eat or fences to hold them. We were able to get the cattle in the pens and about half of the goats before the fires blazed across the land. Even though the clever goats had been kidding, they escaped in the rocky areas where a cow could not.  The last I heard, this particular fire encompassed several ranches consuming about 205,000 acres.  I am so proud of the way the communities came together in time of need.  Trying times for sure, but we still have a lot to be thankful for when you think of those who have lost their homes elsewhere.
